The incident brings the number of traffic fatalities in the province of Chiriquí to 14 so far this year. A 51-year-old man died yesterday morning after the vehicle he was driving to work overturned. Luis Castillo tragically died in a rollover accident on the road leading to Caldera, in the district of Boquete. The accident occurred specifically on the road to Chiriquicito, while the victim was traveling to his daily work. According to witnesses, the accident was caused by a significant drop in the road surface, the result of ongoing repair work in the area. Traffic Operations Units arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area for their investigation. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will begin the necessary investigations to determine responsibility and confirm whether the condition of the road was the main cause of the accident. Nationally, the number of deaths on the roads is worrying: in just 75 days up to mid-March, 67 deaths were recorded on the country’s roads, reinforcing the call from authorities to take extreme precautions while driving.
